About us

Small, local, and here a while.

Good legal work is mostly plain language and a number you can rely on. Very little of it needs to be complicated.

Our story

Opened in Spring Hill in 1987, and still there.

Hallward & Co was set up in 1987 by two solicitors who wanted a firm that quoted a number and stuck to it. The office has been in the same Spring Hill building, above what was once a printer’s shop, for most of that time.

Four decades on, the firm is six solicitors and legal executives, and most matters are still handled by the person the client met at the first meeting.

What we value

Four habits behind every matter.

01

Listening

The first meeting is mostly questions. The advice follows your situation, not a template.

02

Plain English

Letters and advice you can read once and explain to your family, without a glossary.

03

Fixed fees where we can

Standard work is quoted as a fixed price; anything else is a capped hourly rate, agreed in advance.

04

Patience

Nothing is rushed to hit a billing target, because the firm does not set one.

Our team

Six of us, deliberately small.

Nathan Hallward

Legal practitioner director — Property, conveyancing and employment matters.

Priya Chandra

Solicitor — Practises in family law, separation and parenting arrangements.

Ben Okafor

Solicitor — Wills, estates and powers of attorney.

Louise Fairbank

Client services — Answers the phone, books appointments and keeps every file moving.

Ask us one question.

Plenty of people call once with a question and never need us again. That is a perfectly good use of us.
