The beers

Five regulars, always on.

The core five hold the bar down all year; a small-batch board changes every month and never comes back. ABV is on the board next to every one.

What’s on

The core range

Plus a fifth core beer that rotates seasonally, and the monthly small batch on the board.

A glass of pale golden beer held up to the light

Ironbark Pale — 5.0%

Citrus up front, biscuit underneath. The first beer we ever brewed and still the biggest tank.

A glass of dark porter on a timber bar, low warm light

Smokebox Porter — 5.8%

Dark, quiet and lightly smoked, like the shed it’s brewed in. A corner of it sleeps in oak every winter.

A glass of amber IPA catching afternoon light

Ropewalk IPA — 6.2%

Double dry-hopped and properly bitter — the one the Thursday regulars order first.

A glass of copper-red ale beside a small taster paddle

Chain Maker’s Red — 4.6%

Malty, round and easy-going — the one to start a tasting paddle with.

Try a few

A tasting flight is the honest way to choose.

Four small pours on a paddle, so you taste the range before you commit to a full glass. Ask the bar for one — it costs the same whoever pours it.

We serve responsibly. Over-18s only at the bar, and water is always free and always offered.

Beer questions

The ones the bar gets weekly

Everything here we’ve been asked more than once, usually on a Saturday afternoon.

Is there a low or no-alcohol option?

A rotating low-ABV beer is usually on, and soft drinks are always available. Ask the bar what’s pouring.

Can we bring the kids or the dog?

The yard is family- and dog-friendly until early evening. The bar itself is over-18s only.

Is there food?

A rotating food setup runs Thursday to Sunday. Check what’s on before you come if you’re planning dinner around it.

Do you take bookings for the long table?

For groups of six or more, yes — send us a note and we’ll hold you a stretch of it.

Can we take beer home?

Yes, from the cold store, cans dated on the bottom. Takeaway sales stop at the same time as the bar.

Is there parking?

On the street around the Yard, plus a small lot behind the shed. We’d rather you didn’t drive home after a session — the CityGlider stop is a five-minute walk.

Taste it where it’s made.

Every beer on this page is forty feet from its tank, Thursday to Sunday.
