Hot water & gas

Which hot water system suits your house

Heat pump, gas, solar or electric. The honest comparison, including what each one costs to run through a Brisbane summer and winter.

Choosing a system

Heat pump

Works like an air conditioner in reverse and uses around a third of the power of a plain electric tank. Suits most Brisbane homes. The unit hums, so we place it away from bedroom windows.

Gas continuous flow

Heats water only as you use it, so it never runs out. The pick for a big household if the house already has mains gas, or room for bottles on the side path.

Solar

Roof collectors with an electric or gas boost for cloudy weeks. The cheapest to run in Queensland sun and the dearest to install, and your roof needs the right aspect.

Electric storage

The cheapest to buy and the dearest to run. Worth it on an off-peak tariff in a small household, or as a like-for-like swap when you need hot water back today. Every system we install gets a tempering valve, so bathroom taps run at a safe temperature.

Gas work

Cooktops & ovens

Connecting, converting and relocating gas appliances, with the compliance paperwork your insurer will ask for.

Bottles to mains

When mains gas reaches your street: the line from the meter, appliance conversions, and the bottles gone from the side path.

If you smell gas

Turn it off at the meter or the bottle, open the windows, and call us. We pressure-test the line and find the leak.
