Dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs
We are a general small animal practice, which means we do the everyday work well and refer the specialist work to people who do it every day. Birds and reptiles we do not see — we will happily point you to a practice that does.
What we treat, grouped
Twelve things, in three groups, with the fee stated alongside each.
Everyday care
The bulk of what comes through the door.
- Consultations ($95). Twenty minutes with a vet for illness, injury, lumps, skin problems and the everyday worries. One problem per appointment keeps the list on time — tell us if there are three and we will book a longer slot.
- Vaccination & annual health check ($125). The vaccine takes a minute; the examination is the point. Teeth, heart, weight, lumps, joints, eyes and ears, which is how most problems get found before you would ever notice them.
- Parasite prevention (from $30). Heartworm, fleas, ticks and intestinal worms. Sherwood is close enough to bushland that paralysis tick season is worth taking seriously.
- Nurse appointments ($48). Weight checks, nail trims, anal glands, post-operative dressings and blood pressure. Shorter, cheaper and available most days.
Surgery & dentistry
All quoted in writing before booking.
- Desexing ($210–$580). Priced by species and weight. Includes anaesthetic, monitoring by a dedicated nurse, pain relief to go home, and the post-operative check. We discuss timing with you rather than defaulting to six months for every animal.
- Dental scale, polish & extractions (from $600). Performed under general anaesthetic with dental x-rays, because around half of dental disease sits below the gum line. Extractions are quoted after the films rather than guessed at beforehand.
- Lump removals & biopsies (from $430). Removed and sent for histopathology. We will tell you honestly when a lump can be safely monitored instead — not everything needs to come off.
- Soft tissue surgery (quoted). Wound repairs, cystotomy, foreign body removal and similar. Anything orthopaedic or requiring a specialist anaesthetist is referred.
Diagnostics & senior care
Most results the same visit.
- In-house pathology (from $100). Blood chemistry, haematology and urinalysis run here, so you usually have answers before you leave rather than a phone call in three days.
- X-ray & ultrasound (from $250). Digital radiography and abdominal ultrasound on site. Cardiac ultrasound is referred to a specialist, because reading a heart properly is its own skill.
- Senior wellness checks ($225). Six-monthly examination with bloods and blood pressure for animals over eight.
- Pain & arthritis management (from $115). Long-term management plans for arthritic dogs and cats, including monthly injections, weight plans and honest conversations about mobility and quality of life.
A general practice that does everything is not doing your animal a favour
Orthopaedic surgery
Cruciate repairs, fracture fixation and joint surgery go to a specialist orthopaedic surgeon we refer to regularly.
Oncology & chemotherapy
We diagnose and stage here, then refer for treatment planning and stay involved in the day-to-day care.
Birds, reptiles & pocket pets
We see dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs. For anything scaled or feathered, we will give you the name of a vet who sees them weekly.
Consults, vaccinations and desexing are priced on this website
Ring between 8am and 7pm weekdays and one of our nurses will tell you honestly whether it needs to be seen today.
